La bastide de Verfeil-sur-Seye (Vertfuèl : vert feuillage) fut fondée en 1250 par Alphonse de Poitiers. On y trouve les vestiges d’anciens remparts, une place à arcades (au XIIIe siècle) et une halle rénovée (au XIXe siècle). Verfeil, cité protestante, subit de nombreux dommages pendant les guerres de religion dont elle se releva durement.
