    • Welcome to the Relays du Chasteau in Aveyron. For five generations, our family has been welcoming lovers of calm and good food.

Rest assured, lulled by the lapping of the stream, in the small rooms that look out over the imposing fortified castle.

Ideal stopover between Millau and Albi, come and taste our family and generous cuisine with a beautiful South-West accent. Our chef offers you traditional cuisine, made from local products: Aveyronnais veal, lamb sweetbreads, foie gras… not to mention the presentation by Sybile and Sarah, of small regional wines for a meal all Aveyronnais!

I have visited this restaurant about 20 times in the course of 15 years. At least I made sure to eat a meal once a year. I have watched them grow, age as well as fade as they brought in different chefs in time. My last visit happened to be the least pleasant. I arrived as I am somewhat recognized by the daughter of the owners who has been a new and good addition in the restaurant for the last few years. I couldn’t catch a glimpse of a hello with her mother nor the father after my hello. It’s usual and ok. I took my seat with friends with the hopes of eating a plate of foie gras then veal with roqforte sauce then a cream caramel - as every year. Veal was a thicker but smaller fillet than usual and the chef didn’t pay enough attention to the thickness of it and made it undercooked. The center of the meat didn’t get enough time. Fish was found tasteless by my friends. Only thing they liked on their plate was the slice of red beet and zucchini. We all had a piece of potato on our plates on the side - again, not very interesting. Their new addition of brown spread placed in a shape of a leaf had a very strange, overly sweet taste. It helped diminishing the overall plate even more. Their best desert no longer exists. Fine. Perhaps time to move on. She expressed herself with the same statement. However there was nothing else to be said. No alternatives to recommend, no making comments. Every desert is another cooked/baked fruit that is not gonna come close to a proper desert. As we leave the place no proper goodbyes, no smiles. People do their jobs here as written on their job description which lacks feelings and personality. For me a good dining experience is not only about the taste of the food. But the service, the atmosphere, the feeling we get out of it. Relays du Chasteau restaurant didn’t surprise me with their cold, distant service which completely lacks the customer appreciation, recognition. I witnessed once again that the decoration follows the same character. There is a great outdoors seating for the ice cream serving in the afternoons in front, right beneath the highlight of the town - the château. However this section is sadly not used for dinning. You are placed indoors with white tiles and walls and some mirrors with less than mediocre quality of small art works. Cold lighting with boring table arrangement. They do their job fine in serving their food however with nearly zero feelings. If you are looking for a good tasting food but nothing else, I can still recommend this place. If you are lucky with the chef you can end up with good plates. I don’t think I will continue to visit them. Unless they surprise and bring the taste of their food back to good, offer their best dish - the cream caramel and be brave enough to serve dinner in front outside with a few smiles during serving.

A small, family-run hotel with an excellent restaurant in a stunning location - could not be better. I hope very much to return one day.

UPDATE 2024 Tonight we enjoyed yet another fabulous meal at this family run establishment. ( The second meal this month) again it did not disappoint. From the warm welcome, the friendly service to the magnificent food that could not be faulted. We are so lucky to have found this restaurant just a short drive from us. How can I give it more than 10/10 as it really deserves it. Thank you for making our evening perfect 👌 ❤️ ‐-----------‐----------------------‐---------------------------------- 2023 We were lucky enough to have a meal here last week with friends. Where do I start. Staff. Could not be better if they tried. Even gave me reading glasses as I'd left mine at home. The service at table , Outstanding. Just attentive enough. The food, beautiful, locally sourced produce cooked to order. The menu is simple but superbly delivered. We will definatly be back. Thank you gor a lovely evening 😄
