Plunge into the heart of history in a museum that renovates its rooms year after year, presenting the life of the Lacaune people from 1700 to 1945. Located on Place du Griffoul opposite the famous Pisseurs fountain, Mémoires Lacaunaises welcomes you from June to September, and every day in summer except Mondays. Take part in a guided tour and let yourself be transported on a journey through time.

Mémoires Lacaunaises, a rich museum to discover in Lacaune

The town's history and heritage are well represented at Mémoires Lacaunaises, a museum that came into being unexpectedly after a temporary exhibition of antique objects in 1989. Following its success, a series of decisions were made, and the Mémoires Lacaunaises moved into a 16th-century consular house, which now has 16 rooms to visit. From headdresses of yesteryear to the large stove in the kitchen next to the souillarde, from the schoolroom of 1880 to the bedroom with bed canopy, the daily life of the Lacaunais between 1700 and 1945 is reconstructed. One room is dedicated to “La Destinée de l'Enfant Sauvage” (The Fate of the Wild Child), while 2 others are devoted to the Assignation, with a model apartment and a full museography of the event. Discover 200 years of history at the Musée d'Histoire et Patrimoine de Lacaune.

Musée des Mémoires Lacaunaises, some practical information about visiting the museum

The museum is not open every day or all year round, only between June and September. So it's best to find out when guided tours are available before you arrive. Our multilingual guides, available in French, English and Spanish, will show you the rooms in small groups. For individual tours, detailed information sheets are available at reception to help you find your way around. Make your way to Place du Griffoul for an exciting trip back in time, before strolling through the museum store. Admission is €3 and free for children under 12, an affordable price that welcomes all visitors to Lacaune. Last but not least, the “Passeport Patrimoine” (Heritage Passport) is accepted for those who enjoy cultural visits.
