1- The Château de Penne in the Tarn

The excursion begins with the unmissable Château de Penne, between Montauban and Albi in the heart of the Gorges de l'Aveyron, a historic monument that represents 13th century architecture. Overlooking the river, this military castle from the Middle Ages was restored and opened to the public in 2010, a real journey through history with demonstrations , participatory workshops and night visits in summer. Take advantage of being in Penne to listen to the unusual story of Alexandre Viguier, nicknamed the Terrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrible of Penne, a renowned expert surveyor who effectively unravels land disputes, which earned him his well-known nickname.

2- The Gaillacois Miniature Train Club

Head south to visit the Gaillacois miniature train club, located in Gaillac, a real plunge into childhood with the exhibition of trains from different eras, located in various settings. With 600 meters of tracks, 192 switches, 3 circuits and 18 trains all in miniature, the exhibition presents the largest network of miniature trains in Midi-Pyrénées.

3- The Academy of Miniatures Museum in Albi

We move away just 20 minutes to the west to discover the Academy of Miniatures Museum in Albi which captivates young and old with the precise and refined representation of apartments, buildings and bourgeois houses from 1900. Between shops and living rooms, there are 51 pieces reproduced in miniature by Annie Jaurès and presented to the public. Live for a suspended moment and enjoy the tea room, the garden and the pretty terrace of this unusual museum.


4- The former metallurgical factory of Saint-Juéry

We stay in Albi to discover another museum, the old metallurgical factory of Saint-Juéry. Between films, animated models, demonstrations, sound and light, you enter a power plant dating from 1824, where no less than 3,800 workers manufactured quality tools. Take a leap back to trace the industrial epic of the site in the 19th and 20th century.

5- The village of Cordes-sur-Ciel in the Tarn

We leave Albi and go a little further north, to Cordes-sur-Ciel, to admire the animals sculpted on the facades of the city. Between the narrow streets and the old houses, this medieval city offers a unique spectacle if you look up. On Gothic facades is transcribed a whole story, as well as many animals such as dragons, monsters,hybrid animals, grimacing characters and magnificent faces.

6- The Tarn tourist railway

We continue the excursion via Gaillac to stop at Saint-Lieux-lès-Lavaur, to discover the tourist railway of the Tarn and the railway museum. In the Agout valley, enjoy an unusual experience on an old railway line which takes you on a discovery of picturesque landscapes, while historical anecdotes are told to you. After a 40-minute walk, visit the museum which tells you its story through the years, between mines, salt marshes, sugar refinery, quarry and blowing snow.

7- The Mazamet footbridge in the Tarn

We move away from Toulouse with a stop in the south at the Mazamet footbridge, a path in the void 140 meters long at 70 meters in height above the Arnette. Join the small medieval village of Hautpoul with a dizzying ride unique in Occitania. Overcome your vertigo and fill up on sensations, the panoramic view of the Arnette valley is worth the detour.

9- Peyro Clabado Rock
