Here we are on holidays, cool! Are you with your family in Albi, and are you planning to have fun? Kids need adventures and activities to keep them busy and satisfy their curiosity. The Guide Tarn Aveyron suggests a fun tour of Albi!

A bit of culture

Albi is a beautiful episcopal city, full of great things to be discovered, impressive buildings and fun museums. Take the children’s perspective, and anticipate their needs to offer them a fun and engaging cultural trail!

After a croissant and hot chocolate breakfast in the Place Nationale, offer them a tour of the historical centre to admire a few of the emblematic buildings and understand why, with its characteristic red brickwork, the town is called "Albi the red". The episcopal city can be visited easily on foot, even with tiny legs.

Pass by the Sainte-Cécile Cathedral, you’re sure to feel small beside this impressive structure! The Palais de la Berbie next to it is also impressive. It is the also the opportunity to visit the Toulouse-Lautrec Museum. This is an attractive museum for the children, with its portraits, posters and animal pictures... And at the end of the visit, hop, a tour in the Jardins du Palais to have a tea-break in front of the beautiful view over the river down below. Can you see the Pont Vieux below? It dates back to the Medieval period and at that time to cross it you needed to pay, a bit like the tolls on the motorways nowadays.

Carry on your walk in the Old Albi, show the children the beautiful half-timbered and corbelled houses. The stalls, shops and mansion houses... The Tourist Office offers a map with several discovery tours and activities for the children!

Visit the Lapérouse Museum, an 18th century explorer whose adventures will inspire the little ones. This pioneer navigated all seven seas on board of  legendary boats such as the Astrolabe.

Having fun!

It is hot, should we go and have a picnic in the shade? Let’s go to the Parc Rochegude. A green oasis and haven of peace and calm in the heart of the red town.

To freshen up at the end of the day, go to eat an ice-cream close to the Place du Vigan (careful of the cars), here you can find water jets to enjoy in the heart of the heat wave! There is also a carousel with wooden horses (The Carrousel of Vigan) close by.

And what about a reading break in a beautiful bookshop? At the children’s bookstore, “Les Petits Vagabonds”, you can find reading suggestions, books, novels, comic strips and events around the youth literature. The most difficult thing is not overloading our rucksack too much, so we can carry on with the visit ;)

Next to the covered market, where there is also another cool shop “Chats Pitres” where you can find board games. The staff can help you choose a game to try during a family game evening, a way to liven up your Albi stay.

Are you a bit tired now? Why not carry on your tour with a small tourist train. Choo choo! It is fun, economic and without a doubt, the quickest and funniest way for the kids to visit the town in the fresh air and also learn its history...Departure Place Sainte-Cécile, among others. At the end of the day, are you looking for calm? In Albi, there is a beautiful complex in the cultural quarter of the Cordeliers a cinema and live shows. Look at the programme on the website of the Scène National d’Albi...There is also the Théâtre Municipal, Le Grand Théâtre des Cordeliers in is modern building.

And tomorrow? We will be in good form, so we can go jumping, running and screaming (with joy!) in the Zig & Compagnie Park. It is an inside park perfect for rainy days or heat waves, with everything you need to entertain the kids (There is even a small disco!)

And for a walk outside, discover another green space: The Base de Loisirs de Pratgraussals: Tennis, children’s playground, picnic tables, fishing area and a lake. During summer, enjoy navigating the Tarn River by canoe. Generally, the canoes are available for children from 5 years old (sometimes 3 years, depending on the companies) when they are accompanied by their parents. Equipped with sun cream, hat and sunglasses, it is all you need for a great nautical day! You can also get on board of a small boat, and have a mini-cruise on the Tarn River!

If you prefer waterslides, all year indoors or outdoors during summer, go to Aquatique Atlantis, a beautiful place to have fun all day, sliding, swimming, playing beach volley or just tanning.
